Former United States President Donald Trump has leveled accusations against the BBC, alleging that the broadcaster is harassing his family. This claim arises from the BBC's attempts to compel Trump's children to testify in his substantial $10 billion defamation lawsuit.

Legal representatives for the British Broadcasting Corporation reportedly sought permission from a Florida court to issue subpoenas for Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner. This move follows reports indicating that the legal documents could not be properly served to them due to their ongoing Secret Service protection.

President Trump is currently embroiled in a £7.4 billion (approximately $10 billion) legal battle with the BBC. The lawsuit centers on a 2024 Panorama documentary that investigated the events leading up to the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021. The program allegedly edited footage of a speech delivered by Donald Trump before the riot, combining remarks from different parts of his address. This editing created an impression that he had urged his supporters to storm the US Capitol following his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

The BBC later acknowledged that its editing had indeed created a misleading impression of Trump's remarks. A spokesperson for Mr. Trump's legal team accused the Corporation of abusing the judicial process. They stated, "The BBC intentionally defamed President Donald J. Trump, and now the BBC is seeking to harass him, his family and supporters by abusing the deposition process. The BBC is simply trying to distract away from their own obvious liability."

In response, the BBC denied any defamation of the former President. Its lawyers argue that Trump's family members "without question have personal knowledge" of the circumstances surrounding the January 6 riots and could provide crucial insights into his intentions. The high-profile case is scheduled to proceed to trial in February 2027.
