Governors’ Forum Lauds Adeleke’s Re-election in Osun, Citing Achievements

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) recently extended its felicitations to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his successful re-election bid. The Forum stated that the results of the gubernatorial contest were a clear indication of the governor's impactful work and the trust the voters had in his leadership. In a Sunday statement, signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the body also lauded the citizens of Osun State for their significant participation and acknowledged all aspirants who vied in the fiercely competitive election.
The NGF characterized the election as further evidence of the robustness of Nigeria's democratic system. It also recognized the crucial contribution of opposition parties in fortifying the nation's democratic framework. "The NGF acknowledges the strides and personality of the governor, which readily paid off at the keenly contested election," the Forum declared. It offered congratulations to Governor Adeleke on his win, expressing certainty that he would leverage the successes of his initial term to further benefit the state in his subsequent tenure.
"We are confident that His Excellency, Ademola Adeleke, will continue to build on the successes of his first term in the overall interest of the people of Osun State," the statement affirmed. Governor Adeleke, running under the Accord Party banner, emerged victorious in the August 15 gubernatorial election, overcoming the challenge from the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
This particular election garnered considerable interest, being a prominent off-cycle gubernatorial race preceding the 2027 general elections. It was keenly monitored by various political factions, Civil Society Organizations, and electoral observers.
The Governors' Forum observed that the high level of voter engagement underscored the unwavering commitment of Nigerians to the democratic process. "The Forum similarly commends the people of the state for the large turnout during the election. We believe that the interest that the off-cycle ballot generated again confirms the resilience of Nigerian democracy. The Forum acknowledges the incredibly important role that opposition parties also play in shaping our democracy, and we commend all the candidates for their efforts," parts of the statement read.
Furthermore, the NGF extended commendation to security agencies for their conduct during the election. It noted that their timely intervention was instrumental in preventing pre-election violence from derailing the electoral process. The Forum specifically stated that it "commends the security agencies for curtailing the initial trend of violence in the days leading to the election and creating a secure condition for the exercise to proceed without much incident."
President Bola Tinubu also received special recognition from the Forum for his "statesmanlike role" throughout the election period. The governors highlighted that President Tinubu adeptly managed his dual responsibilities as the head of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and as the nation's President and father figure. "Finally, we acknowledge the statesmanlike role that President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, has played as he carefully balanced his position as the leader of the ruling party on the one hand and the father of the nation on the other," the NGF's statement concluded.
This statement from the Governors' Forum emerges amidst diverse political analyses of the Osun election, an event largely perceived as a crucial barometer for assessing the influence of both the ruling APC and opposition parties in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
