Kebbi Governor Idris Replaces Deputy, Taps Augie for 2027 Bid

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has officially announced Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as his preferred running mate for the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial election, a move that sees the current Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, stepping aside from the position. This significant development was disclosed on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi by the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, as confirmed via a statement on the state government’s official X handle.
Argungu explained that the decision to replace the incumbent deputy governor was made following “professional legal advice” concerning Senator Tafida’s eligibility. He explicitly stated, “The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice.”
Furthermore, Argungu assured the public that this decision was reached with the full understanding and consent of Senator Tafida, emphasizing that there was no discord or disagreement between the governor and his deputy. He subsequently introduced Alhaji Ibrahim Augie as the new running mate to Governor Idris for the 2027 election cycle.
Politicians, APC members, and supporters across Kebbi State were urged by Argungu to embrace this change and collaborate to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 polls. Governor Idris himself also dispelled any rumours of disagreement with Senator Tafida, appealing for continued unity, support, and cooperation from all stakeholders as his administration remains committed to driving further development across Kebbi State.
Alhaji Ibrahim Augie brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State during the tenure of former Governor Atiku Bagudu. He is an indigene of the Augie Local Government Area of the state.
