Kebbi PDP Clears Air on Endorsement of Gov Idris for 2027 Election

The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has come out to refute claims that it has endorsed the All Progressives Congress governor, Nasir Idris, for the upcoming 2027 governorship election. This denial comes on the heels of a declaration by a group of PDP stakeholders, led by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, and other notable figures, expressing their support for Governor Idris' re-election bid. According to the group, their decision to back the governor was based on his impressive performance and commitment to the development of Kebbi State. However, the PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Usman Suru, has made it clear that this endorsement does not represent the stance of the party. In a statement released to the press, Suru emphasized that the PDP remains united and committed to its own candidates for the 2027 elections. He urged party members to disregard any reports suggesting that the PDP has abandoned its platform or adopted the APC candidate. The chairman highlighted that the PDP has fielded candidates for all available positions in the state, including the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship. Speaking at the gathering where support for Governor Idris was declared, Bamaiyi praised the governor's visible achievements, particularly in the area of infrastructural development. Another speaker, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Buhari Bala, noted that the group's decision was informed by their assessment of the governor's leadership and performance. Despite this development, the Kebbi State PDP leadership maintains that the party has not endorsed Governor Idris and remains focused on its own candidates for the 2027 elections.
