Oriyomi Hamzat Claims Credit for Makinde's Rise to Power in Oyo State

Oriyomi Hamzat, a popular broadcaster and Accord Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, has asserted that he played a pivotal role in bringing Governor Seyi Makinde into the political fray that ultimately led to his ascension to the governorship of the state. Hamzat made this claim while addressing members of the Accord Party in Ibadan, highlighting that his support for Makinde's gubernatorial bid was rooted in his belief that Makinde would work tirelessly for the betterment of Oyo State. However, he expressed dissatisfaction over being denied credit for the achievements of the administration he helped usher into power. 'I was among those who brought Seyi Makinde into the political scene, and all the good things he has achieved, I deserve credit for them,' Hamzat stated. He further emphasized that his relationship with Makinde was never based on personal gain, but rather on his desire to see the people of Oyo State benefit from their leadership. The broadcaster's comments come amidst a backdrop of deteriorating political relations between him and Makinde, who were once considered close allies. Makinde, currently serving his second term as governor, has recently moved to the Allied Peoples Movement to pursue his presidential ambitions in the 2027 election. In contrast, Hamzat is seeking to become the next governor of Oyo State on the platform of the Accord Party.
