Hillary Clinton Blasts Trump's Gold White House Decor, Likening It to Saddam Hussein's Palaces

Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has publicly voiced her disapproval of the ongoing White House renovations under President Donald Trump. She asserts that the opulent, gold-laden interior design choices are a direct reflection of Trump's personality, drawing a striking comparison to the palatial homes of the late Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein.
The administration's redesign of the White House has heavily featured gold accents, noticeable in the ceilings, plasterwork, door frames, and furniture across the West Wing. During her appearance on the 'Pivot' podcast, hosted by Kara Swisher, Clinton lambasted the aesthetic, describing the "tackied up" decor as reminiscent of Saddam Hussein's residences. She further characterized these design decisions as indicative of a narcissistic personality, driven by a need for self-importance, leading to the extensive application of gold embellishments throughout the Oval Office.
Clinton, who herself oversaw the refurbishment of the White House Blue Room during her tenure as First Lady, has become a vocal critic of the current administration's alterations to the presidential complex. She raised concerns about the fate of future construction projects, specifically labelling the proposed White House ballroom as a "carbuncle on the side of the building." Playfully, she also mentioned her willingness to take on the task of redecorating and restoring the White House's interior once Trump's presidency concludes.
In response to Clinton's comments, White House spokesman Davis Ingle issued a statement, directly referencing her defeat in the 2016 presidential election. Ingle remarked that Clinton never had the chance to decorate the Oval Office as president because she suffered a "humiliating defeat" at the hands of Donald Trump, an outcome from which, he suggested, she has not recovered.
Despite the criticism, the Trump administration has continued to leave its distinctive mark on the White House, with gold detailing remaining a prominent feature in the aesthetic transformations implemented across the West Wing and the Oval Office.
