Popular Afrobeats artist, David Adeleke, widely recognized as Davido, recently addressed remarks made by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo concerning his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. In a video posted on X last Friday, Davido also urged President Bola Tinubu to guarantee a credible and equitable gubernatorial election in Osun State, ahead of the scheduled August 15 polls.

These statements by the music icon were delivered during a "VOTE, NOT FIGHT" advocacy event held in Osogbo on Friday, preceding the upcoming August 15 gubernatorial contest. Addressing Governor Okpebholo's critique of Governor Adeleke's penchant for dancing, Davido asserted that there was no fault in the act. He was quoted saying, "Mr Monday Okpebholo, you don see small money now, your voice no dey shake again abi? You’re talking about my governor that all he does is dance. Is there any problem in dancing? Na because you no get talent na. You can talk anyhow."

Furthermore, Davido commended the current Adeleke administration, highlighting its commitment to delivering on pledges made to the citizens of Osun State. He added, "I’m happy that the Osun people have stood with us and have stood firm. It’s not only because of Adeleke but because this government has been doing a good job. All the projects we promised, we’ve been delivering it."

The acclaimed artist subsequently directed an appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging his intervention to guarantee a credible electoral process. "Mr President, I came to see you personally in Abuja, and you promised me that you will give us a free and fair election," Davido reiterated.

PUNCH Online also reported that following his comments regarding Governor Adeleke's dancing, Davido posted what seemed to be Governor Okpebholo's WAEC examination result on his Instagram Stories last Friday. While no caption accompanied the upload, it was widely perceived as a direct retort to the Edo governor's earlier remarks about Adeleke. Earlier on Thursday, Davido had joined Governor Adeleke for a roadshow and campaign rally. During that event, he had called for a peaceful, free, and credible election, imploring voters to shun violence, intimidation, and any form of electoral interference.
