Tinubu Urges Governors to Rethink Flyover Projects, Focus on Citizens' Welfare

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to state governors to reassess their priorities when it comes to infrastructure development. During a meeting with traditional rulers from Oyo state, led by Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, July 30, President Tinubu emphasized the need for governors to focus on projects that directly benefit the citizens. He pointed out that the current financial allocations to states are significantly higher than what they were during his and Oba Ladoja's tenure as governors. President Tinubu, who governed Lagos from 1999 to 2007, and Oba Ladoja, who served as governor of Oyo from 2003 to 2007, noted that the increased funding has eliminated the need for governors to borrow money to pay salaries, with pensioners also receiving their pay. The President urged the governors to utilize these funds more effectively, suggesting that they build roads and develop arterial networks to improve the quality of life and accessibility for security agencies. He stated, 'You have governed before as a governor. You need to help us communicate to these governors. Today, the economy of operation is high. But the money that I’m pushing to the states, if you had had it during your own time or during my time, it would have been different. They are taking four to five times their money. Nobody is borrowing money to pay salaries now. Pensioners are receiving their pay. They should do more instead of building flying over where there is no numeric traffic; build roads and artery networks to really enhance the quality of life and the accessibility of the security agencies to penetrate those areas.'
