Tinubu Under Fire for Prioritizing Politics Over Security

The recent statement made by President Bola Tinubu to Catholic Bishops, where he expressed his commitment to improving the security and economic situation in the country, has been met with criticism from opposition parties. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the president's vow to 'fight to the finish' politically, stating that he should instead focus on addressing the nation's security crisis and defeating terrorists. According to the National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the president's comments are a disturbing example of his administration's misplaced priorities. Abdullahi emphasized that the president's primary duty is to protect and preserve Nigerian lives, but instead, he has chosen to prioritize political battles over the fight against terrorism and insecurity. The ADC spokesman also expressed concern over the president's handling of the economy, citing the recent revelation that the federal government exceeded its 2024 borrowing limit by N4.79 trillion. The Allied People's Movement (APM) has also joined in the criticism, describing the president's claims of economic recovery as illusory and stating that the harsh realities on the ground paint a different picture. The APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, pointed out that independent data from credible institutions show that the poverty rate has risen above 63 percent in 2026, indicating that over 140 million Nigerians have been plunged into poverty under the Tinubu administration. Furthermore, the ADC has stated that it would not trust its votes with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the coming elections, citing the commission's past record of irregularities. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi, emphasized that the ADC would defend its votes wholeheartedly and take necessary measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
