UI Ordered to Resolve Master's Degree Dispute with Kayode Bello Within 48 Hours

In a significant development, the Court of Appeal in Ibadan has instructed the University of Ibadan to engage in immediate reconciliation talks with Kayode Bello, a master's student who has been embroiled in a prolonged legal battle with the institution over his graduation. The directive, issued on June 29, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Chief Registrar, Mrs. Maryam Belgore Ahmed, orders the university and Bello to convene a face-to-face meeting within 48 hours to explore a mediated settlement. The meeting, scheduled for July 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM, aims to resolve the dispute that arose when the university blocked Bello's access to his student portal, preventing him from graduating. Despite a previous court ruling in Bello's favor, the university administration refused to comply, leading to the appeal. The Court of Appeal, led by Justice Abraham George, has given the parties a strict deadline to resolve the matter, warning that if the reconciliation attempts fail, the court will proceed to hear the pending applications. The university has been ordered to treat the directive with absolute urgency, and the appellate court has adjourned the matter until July 3, 2026, for a report on the settlement. The case has been marked as CA/IB/427/2025, and the university has been warned to comply with the court's order to avoid further legal action. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the university and Bello can reach a mutually acceptable agreement within the given timeframe.
