Borno Terror Attack: Scores of Students Remain Unaccounted For

A devastating attack on a school in Borno State has left numerous students unaccounted for, with parents and authorities scrambling to locate them. On Monday, terrorists launched an assault on the Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two teachers and the abduction of an unspecified number of students. The attack occurred while students were sitting for the National Examinations Council examination, sending shockwaves throughout the community. In the aftermath of the attack, parents have been registering the names of their missing children, with at least 37 names currently on the list. Mbula Bura, a parent whose 19-year-old daughter Esther Mbula is among the missing, stated that the state government has opened a register for families to report missing persons. He revealed that 37 names have been registered so far, and expressed concern for the safety of his daughter, who is in SSS2. Another parent, Emmanuel Dari, whose 16-year-old daughter Lucy Emmanuel is also missing, described the sense of panic that has gripped families since the attack. The state government has dispatched a delegation led by the Commissioner for Education, Lawan Wakilbe, to assess the situation and provide support to the affected families. Meanwhile, a resident of the town, Bitrus Milnda, reported that two of his relatives, Martha Wajau and Abori Ujulu, were among those abducted. The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of 10 victims, including teachers and students, who were abducted during the attack. According to the Acting Military Information Officer, North-East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, the rescued victims were unhurt and are receiving the necessary care and support. The army has also reported that two security operatives, including a soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were killed during the rescue operation, and that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
