A 300-level university student tragically lost his life in Abuja after being stabbed during a phone snatching incident. The unfortunate event unfolded on Sunday, June 28, 2026, within the premises of MD Abubakar Barracks in Jibi, Dei Dei.

The deceased, identified as Sunday Adamu Hussaini, had reportedly just returned from a church service and was visiting a friend. Reports indicate that he was taking photographs with his newly acquired iPhone 16 when he was confronted by suspected criminals.

These assailants, who were said to be disguised as scavengers, accosted Hussaini and demanded his phone at knifepoint. During a struggle over the device, the suspects inflicted fatal stab wounds on Sunday.

According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune, bystanders quickly came to the victim's aid and rushed him to a medical facility. Meanwhile, residents managed to apprehend one of the suspects, who was subsequently beaten severely by the angry crowd. Upon receiving news that Sunday had succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital, the mob's fury intensified, prompting police intervention. Officers had to deploy tear gas canisters to disperse the agitated residents.

As of the time this report was filed, the FCT Police Command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, had not yet released an formal statement regarding the incident. However, a family member, Dan Sanni, publicly confirmed the tragic loss through a Facebook post.

Sanni expressed his grief, writing, "Gone too soon. Today, we lost my nephew, Sunday Adamu Hussaini. A 300 Level university student. A young man full of life. He went to morning service this Sunday with hope in his heart. He was meant to return to school tomorrow. Instead, while taking a stroll in the Dei Dei Police Barracks around 9:30am a criminal disguised as a scavenger snatched his phone. In the struggle, he was st@bbed. And just like that, life left him in the cold hands of d3ath. Ambitious. Gentle. Full of dreams. All cut short in one violent moment. Parents are shattered. Loved ones are devastated. A future is gone. Life, which once felt sacred, now feels stolen. Which way, Nigeria? #JusticeForHim #EndTheViolenceRIP NEPHEW."
