Tragedy Strikes Ibadan: Diesel Tanker Claims Five Lives in Road Crash

Full Story
A devastating road accident in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, has led to the death of five individuals. The unfortunate incident, which took place on Saturday, October 17, involved a fully loaded 45,000-litre diesel tanker and several commercial vehicles.
The collision occurred at the Aduloju Bus Stop, situated directly opposite Dominion City, along the bustling Iwo Road–Ojoo Expressway. Emergency personnel confirmed that among the fatalities were two men, one of whom was the driver of a commercial car, alongside three female passengers.
Initial investigations by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) suggest that the heavy-duty tanker experienced a sudden brake failure while it was traveling at a considerable speed. The driver subsequently lost control of the articulated vehicle, causing it to swerve violently and collide with multiple Nissan Micra commercial sedans, trapping their occupants within the mangled wreckage.
The Oyo State Police Command has verified the fatalities and stated that the Commissioner of Police swiftly deployed officers to secure the accident site. This measure was crucial to prevent potential secondary hazards, such as fuel explosions or opportunistic looting. Joint teams comprising officers from the Nigerian Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and OYRTMA collaborated effectively to manage the flow of traffic, successfully extricate trapped passengers, and clear the debris from the road. The remains of the deceased have since been moved to the Adeoyo Hospital Mortuary.
