The vice-presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has controversially attributed the death of his mother to the economic policies enacted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Madam Mary Amaechi, his mother, passed away in July at the age of 89. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday night, October 2, Amaechi asserted that the removal of the fuel subsidy, among other government directives, has inflicted severe hardship upon Nigerian citizens, including himself.

According to the former Minister of Transportation, numerous individuals, including his late mother, have succumbed to the challenging economic climate. He questioned the whereabouts of the funds expected from the subsidy removal, stating, “Where are the funds that supposed to be from the outcome of the fuel subsidy removal? Where are they? The essence of removing the subsidy according to the president is to better the lives of Nigerians. I want to feel it. Everybody wants to feel it. Nobody hates Tinubu. I love Tinubu., He knows but I disagree with him because his policies are killing people. I lost my mother Many people have lost their persons.”

When directly asked if he was definitively claiming that President Tinubu’s policies led to his mother’s death, Amaechi responded affirmatively. He elaborated, “Of course! Before Tinubu, my mother was healthy. When Tinubu came, it was difficult to buy drugs for my mother.”
