Trio to Face Ogun Court Over Alleged Police Assault Incident

Full Story
The Ogun State Police Command has announced that three individuals are scheduled for arraignment today, Friday, before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court. The suspects, identified as 51-year-old Alaba Mulika, 21-year-old Alawode Iyanu, and 29-year-old Temitope Saliu, face charges stemming from an alleged assault and obstruction of police officers while on duty.
This development was communicated by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement released on Friday. The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had previously ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. The statement detailed, "The Ogun State Police Command will today charge three suspects before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, into an incident involving the alleged obstruction and serious assault of police officers performing their lawful duties."
The incident in question reportedly took place on September 29, 2026. A police team, led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel, had intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle on Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye. As the officers were transporting the vehicle to the station, a Toyota Highlander, bearing registration number JJJ 215 JV, allegedly obstructed their path on Abobi Street.
According to the command's account, this obstruction escalated into a physical confrontation during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted. The statement further noted that "Video recordings of the incident, which subsequently circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation."
Following the Police Commissioner's directive, detectives from the command meticulously investigated the circumstances surrounding the event, visited the scene, and subsequently apprehended the three suspects. Babaseyi confirmed that the suspects will be charged with a five-count charge, which includes "conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged serious assault on police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace."
The command, through its statement, reaffirmed its unwavering stance on the protection of its personnel. "The Commissioner of Police reiterates that the safety and protection of police officers performing lawful duties remain a priority of the Command." The public was also encouraged to utilize proper legal channels for grievances rather than resorting to physical confrontations with police personnel. Babaseyi concluded by stating that "Further updates will be communicated as developments warrant."
