Enugu: Emmanuel Okpara Confesses to Girlfriend's Murder Amidst HIV Blame Game

A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okpara, has admitted to the killing of his girlfriend, Chinenye, in Enugu State following an incident on September 19. Okpara's confession, detailing the tragic events, was captured in a video recording.

Emmanuel recounted that he first connected with Chinenye on Facebook in 2023. At that time, he was residing in Nekede, Imo State. He later relocated to Enugu State in December 2025, while Chinenye was undergoing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Port Harcourt. Their relationship officially commenced in March 2026, after Chinenye completed her NYSC and returned to Enugu, where they subsequently met.

During one of Chinenye's visits, Emmanuel claimed he informed her about his supposed ability to cure s*xually transmitted diseases, including Hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis. This statement, he recounted, immediately provoked a strong reaction from Chinenye, who accused him of being the one responsible for her HIV infection.

The accusation quickly escalated into a heated argument, which then turned violent. Emmanuel alleged that Chinenye struck him with a pistol. He managed to disarm her, taking the weapon, and then used it to hit her on the head, causing her to collapse. Following this, he further assaulted her with a machete, severing her wrist and inflicting severe cuts to her head and neck.

Emmanuel confessed that he was under the influence of hard drugs when he committed the crime. After the killing, he wrapped Chinenye's body in nylon and kept it inside his apartment for three days, paralyzed by fear and uncertainty about his next steps. The decomposing body's foul odour eventually alerted neighbours, who forced their way into his room, discovering him alongside the deceased. He also admitted to damaging Chinenye's phone to prevent anyone from contacting her.
