NSCDC Nabs Suspect Over Telecom Mast Vandalism in Anambra

Full Story
The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken into custody a 24-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the vandalism and theft of crucial equipment from a telecommunication mast. The incident targeted infrastructure belonging to one of the country's service providers.
According to a statement issued by Edwin Okadigbo, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations for the NSCDC Anambra State Command, the individual, identified as Nweke Wisdom, hails from the Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He was apprehended on Thursday, October 1, around 7:20 AM, within the Esther Obiakor Estate in Agu-Awka. Following his arrest, Nweke was transported to the NSCDC State Headquarters in Awka.
Initial investigations suggest that Nweke Wisdom has a history of specialising in damaging telecommunication masts and stealing valuable components from them. The official statement detailed that the arrest occurred after a distress call reported a suspected vandal at the mast site. Items believed to have been removed from the installation, including DC Cable/Armored Cable, were found in the suspect's possession.
The statement further confirmed that Nweke Wisdom has provided useful confessions to investigators. He is expected to face charges in court once the ongoing investigation is concluded.
The NSCDC command reiterated its firm commitment to safeguarding vital national assets and infrastructure across the state. They also issued a stern warning to those involved in vandalism, urging them to cease such activities or face the full consequences of the law.
