Fr Moses Adasu University Student Held Over Hot Water Attack on Roommate

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 500-level student from Fr Moses Adasu University, previously known as Benue State University, in connection with an alleged assault involving hot water. The incident, which occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, saw the suspect reportedly pour a mixture of hot water, salt, and pepper on a fellow student before locking her in a room.

DSP Peter Aondongu, the state police spokesperson, informed journalists on Saturday that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the altercation between the two students. According to DSP Aondongu, both individuals shared the same accommodation. He elaborated, “From the information I have, both students were staying in the same room and had an issue. The suspect allegedly boiled water, added salt and pepper, and poured the mixture on the victim and then locked her inside.” He added that bystanders eventually intervened, rescued the victim, and ensured she received medical attention at a hospital, while the alleged assailant was apprehended. DSP Aondongu noted that further details regarding the origin of the dispute were still emerging but reiterated that the incident was confirmed and involved students of the institution.

Meanwhile, sources indicated that the victim is a 200-level Political Science student named Rose, who was allegedly attacked by a student identified as Felicia following a disagreement. Akighirga Vitalis, the President of the Students’ Union, who visited Rose at the hospital with other executive members, recounted the victim's explanation of the events. Vitalis stated that Rose described a growing strain in her relationship with Felicia, her roommate, over personal issues, which ultimately escalated into the violent incident.

Expressing profound shock at Rose’s condition and strongly condemning the attack, Vitalis characterized it as “a grave and unacceptable assault on the life and well-being of a fellow student.” He assured that the Students’ Union would diligently monitor the matter until justice is served. The union president affirmed the commitment to engaging relevant authorities, closely tracking the ongoing police investigation, and observing any disciplinary actions taken by the university. Vitalis emphasized that should the allegations against Felicia be substantiated through due process, the Students’ Union would endorse the imposition of appropriate penalties under university regulations, including potential expulsion. "The Students’ Union will not condone violence or any conduct capable of endangering the life of another student," Vitalis declared.
