Lekki Cinema Tragedy: Machete Attacker Kills Two, Dies in Mob Action

A violent incident unfolded at a cinema in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Reports indicate that a man, armed with both a machete and a knife, attempted to force his way into the entertainment venue. When confronted by security personnel, he reportedly turned violent, leading to a fatal confrontation.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the man launched an attack on the security guards after being denied entry. The Lagos State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, confirmed the tragic events to Vanguard on Saturday. According to Abimbola, the assailant fatally stabbed one security guard and inflicted injuries on another. In a subsequent turn of events, the suspect himself was reportedly mobbed by an angry crowd and also died.

"Two people have been confirmed dead," the police spokesperson stated. She further elaborated that investigations are underway to ascertain the identities of the deceased and the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Abimbola mentioned that the suspect appeared to be homeless and was believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, the Chief Security Officer of the cinema has been taken into custody, Vanguard reported. The command is also actively working to retrieve and examine closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the cinema to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine if any other individuals were involved.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the attack and the resulting fatalities. As of the time this report was filed, the identities of the two deceased persons had not been publicly released, nor were further details provided regarding the condition of the injured security personnel.
