NDLEA Uncovers Cocaine Haul in Lagos, Makes arrests in Rivers, Anambra, Delta, and Nasarawa

In a series of coordinated operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in the fight against illicit substance trafficking. On Thursday, July 30, 2026, NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations (DOGI) intercepted two packages containing cocaine at a logistics company in Lagos. The first package, bound for China, was cleverly concealed in a local mortar, with 250 grams of cocaine factory-fitted into its base. The second package, destined for Italy, had 500 grams of cocaine hidden in the false bottom of a backpack. These seizures underscore the innovative methods employed by drug traffickers to evade detection. In a separate development, NDLEA operatives in Rivers State apprehended Ugo Gift Okonkwo, a 38-year-old notorious drug dealer, at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Okonkwo was found in possession of various quantities of cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol, and codeine syrup. Furthermore, NDLEA officers conducted a stop-and-search operation at the DMGS roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday, July 27, 2026, where they intercepted a truck loaded with 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup, weighing 3,960 kilograms. The truck driver, Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was taken into custody. Additionally, 331.84 kilograms of skunk were recovered from a Toyota Sienna bus along the Kwale/Ughelli expressway in Delta State on Sunday, July 26, 2026. In Nasarawa State, a 64-year-old man, Joseph Nwaeke, was arrested on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with 68 kilograms of skunk and 29 grams of methamphetamine. Lastly, in Zamfara, NDLEA operatives intercepted Sani Umar, 27, who was conveying 7,400 pills of tramadol 225mg, suspected to be supplies for criminal elements, along the Zaria-Gusau highway on Monday, July 27, 2026.
