In a shocking incident that highlights the dangers of vandalism, a suspected cable thief lost his life to electrocution in Jigawa State. The tragic event occurred on July 31, 2026, at about 9:00 am, along the Ringim-Sintilimawa Road. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, a distress call was received regarding a motionless body found along the road. Upon arrival, officers discovered severe burn injuries on the victim's hands, chest, and pelvic area. Items found at the scene, including hand gloves, a hacksaw, and sacks, suggested that the deceased was attempting to vandalize an electric cable when he was electrocuted. The police have warned residents against tampering with electrical installations and urged them to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The Jigawa State Police Command is committed to protecting public assets and will prosecute anyone found culpable in such criminal acts. Residents who spoke to the press expressed shock and sadness over the incident, noting that vandalism is not only risky for the perpetrators but also affects the community by causing power outages. The police are currently working to establish the identity of the deceased, and the case is under investigation.
