Tragedy struck in Nasarawa State when a 400-level student of the Federal University of Lafia, Habiba Ummi Lele, from the Department of Chemistry, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as she was returning to Lafia after attending her friend's graduation ceremony at the College of Health and Technology in Keffi. According to reports, the robbers opened fire on the vehicle she was in, resulting in her instant death. The details surrounding the incident are still not fully clear. In a show of solidarity and condolence, the Executive Chairman of Awe Local Government Council, Hon. Umar Abubakar Dan'AKano, and the Member representing Awe North Constituency, Hon. Hudu A. Hudu Kanje, attended the funeral prayer for the late Habiba Ummi Lele. The prayer took place at Hon. Hudu A. Hudu Kanje's residence in Kanje on Sunday, where family, friends, community leaders, and sympathizers gathered to pay their respects and offer support to the bereaved family. Hon. Umar Abubakar Dan'AKano extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her paradise, and give the family the strength and patience to bear this loss. He also prayed for comfort and divine guidance for the family and all those mourning this tragic loss.
