A distressing incident occurred in the early hours of August 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located in Inoyi, Affa, within the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. According to eyewitness accounts, the church was invaded by a group of at least seven armed men, who proceeded to kidnap several members of the congregation, including a seminarian. The attack happened as it was raining, and locals were on their way to attend church services. Upon witnessing a crowd fleeing the church premises, those approaching were informed about the armed invasion and the subsequent kidnapping of church members. The locals, though willing to pursue the kidnappers, were hindered by their lack of arms, as the kidnappers were well-armed. They also expressed concern over the inability of their local security agents to provide adequate protection due to being unarmed themselves. The community is calling upon the government to provide them with the necessary support to ensure their safety, either through intervention or by providing them with the means to defend themselves. One of the kidnapped individuals is reported to be a native of the area who had returned for his father's burial. The community's plea for assistance highlights the growing concern over insecurity in the region.
