Delta Government Orders Manhunt for Attackers of Governor Oborevwori's Aide

The Delta State Government has issued a directive to security agencies, instructing them to swiftly apprehend and prosecute individuals implicated in the brutal assault on Simon Mudi, also known as Temple, a protocol aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. This violent incident transpired during an All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders’ meeting for Delta Central, held last Sunday at the Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, conveyed this development in a statement released on Tuesday, with copies made available to Yin in Warri on Wednesday. The state government unequivocally condemned the attack, labeling it as “unacceptable and a threat to public peace.”

Aniagwu further elaborated that the state administration was deeply “disturbed by videos of the incident circulating on social media,” particularly highlighting the severe beating inflicted upon Mr. Mudi. Footage from the altercation prominently shows Temple being repeatedly assaulted by armed youths, resulting in injuries described as life-threatening. It was also reported that Comrade Reuben Izeze, the State Commissioner for Works (Urban/Highways), was similarly attacked during the chaotic event.

Emphasizing the administration's stance, Aniagwu affirmed that the Oborevwori government would not condone violence or any form of lawlessness. He issued a stern warning that all individuals involved in the assault would be subjected to the full force of the law.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute all those involved in the incident,” Aniagwu declared. He added, “The reported acts of violence, particularly the cruel attack on Simon Mudi, are unacceptable and have no place in our society.”

The state government reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding peace, law, and order across Delta, asserting that no person, regardless of their status or identity, would be permitted to engage in vigilantism. Meanwhile, residents have been urged by the State government to maintain calm and abide by the law as security operatives conduct their investigations into the matter.
