In a major crackdown on economic sabotage, the Nigerian Army's 65 Battalion has successfully dismantled an illicit oil bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State. The operation, which was led by Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, was carried out based on credible intelligence gathered on the illegal activities in the area. According to Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, the raid resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of several items, including four trucks, a pumping machine, and various pipes and drums used for the illicit operation. The suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and necessary action. The Army has stated that the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to combat illegal oil bunkering, protect critical national assets, and strengthen security within its area of responsibility. Major General Adebayo Babalola, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, commended the troops for their successful operation and urged them to sustain the fight against economic sabotage and other criminal activities. The Army's statement noted that the operation was a result of credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of six suspected oil bunkerers and the recovery of the aforementioned items. The Army's efforts to combat illegal oil bunkering are aimed at protecting the country's economy and natural resources.
