Ghanaian Pastor Impersonator Nabbed for Defrauding Women with False Marriage Promises

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspected romance scammer, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, for allegedly duping several women through deceitful promises of marriage and the unauthorized dissemination of intimate images. According to a statement released by the authorities on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect posed as a clergyman, conducting online church services via Instagram, where he targeted unsuspecting women, claiming that divine revelation had identified them as his future spouses. The suspect allegedly gained the trust of his victims by visiting their families and presenting them with promise rings. Furthermore, he is accused of obtaining intimate images from some of his victims and utilizing them for extortion. It is also alleged that he introduced some victims to a fictitious car tyre business, collecting substantial amounts of money from them under the guise of shipping and clearing containers of tyres, only to become unreachable thereafter. Investigations have also uncovered that the suspect shared the intimate images of some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is accused of threatening the victims. As of now, seven victims have reported the incident to the Police, with investigations indicating that the offences date back to 2021. The suspects, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng and Sally Akosua Amoasah, were arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court 1 on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, specifically defrauding by false pretences, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. The court has remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng in Police custody, with a scheduled reappearance on August 6, 2026, while Sally Akosua Amoasah was granted bail. The Ghana Police Service is urging other potential victims to come forward and report any similar incidents to the nearest Police station to aid in the ongoing investigations.
