Following NCAA Order, Air Peace Offers 25% Discount for Delayed Lagos-Enugu Trip

Nigerian carrier Air Peace has extended a 25 percent discount on a one-way domestic flight ticket to legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Inibehe Effiong. This gesture comes as redress for a disrupted Lagos-Enugu flight, aligning with a mandate from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

Effiong himself confirmed this development through a Wednesday post on his X social media account, where he uploaded an email from the airline’s customer service. The correspondence, seen by our reporter, showed Air Peace expressing regret for the interruption of flight P47100, which was scheduled from Lagos to Enugu on September 21, 2026. The airline stated that a tax-exclusive discounted ticket had been approved to compensate for the inconvenience caused.

The airline's email provided instructions for redemption: “To claim the ticket, please send an email to [email protected] with your old booking reference, scanned copy of your travel passport, and details of your new flight itinerary (route, date and time).” Furthermore, Air Peace specified that the offer would remain valid for a period of six months from the email's dispatch date, with the exception of the peak travel season spanning December 15, 2026, to January 15, 2027.

Previously, PUNCHONLINE reported that the NCAA had mandated Air Peace to offer compensation to Effiong and fellow passengers impacted by the delay. This directive followed a preliminary inquiry which revealed that the airline had issued incorrect notifications prior to the flight, originally slated to depart Lagos for Enugu at 6:45 am on a Monday.

Effiong had previously leveled accusations of irresponsibility against the airline. He recounted arriving at Terminal One of Murtala Muhammed Airport around 5:50 am for his flight, only to be informed, alongside other travellers, to wait. The flight was ultimately pushed back to 4:50 pm. This unforeseen disruption, he stated, resulted in him missing a pre-arranged court session in Enugu State.

Michael Achimugu, who serves as the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, later verified that the flight delay stemmed from a cascading effect of an earlier disruption that occurred on Sunday night. He subsequently instructed Air Peace to provide compensation to all inconvenienced passengers, in accordance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

In his response to the compensation, Effiong articulated that the airline’s offer did not adequately tackle what he termed Air Peace’s persistent substandard service culture. He remarked in an X post: “This modest effort by Air Peace to assuage me and other aggrieved passengers should not detract from the fundamental issue, namely: the perennial lackluster, arrogant and frustrating attitude of the company.”

While praising the prompt actions of Achimugu and the NCAA, Effiong maintained that a more robust regulatory framework is essential for safeguarding the rights of air travellers. He stated: “While the swift response of Mike Achimugu and NCAA in this case are commendable, there is no doubt that we need a stiffer and stronger regulatory framework in the aviation industry to protect the rights of air passengers.”
