Knee Injury Forces Serena Williams Out of Wimbledon Doubles with Sister Venus

Tennis legend Serena Williams has officially withdrawn from the women's doubles competition at Wimbledon, where she was scheduled to pair with her sister, Venus Williams. The decision comes after Serena sustained a right knee injury, which she picked up during her highly anticipated singles return earlier in the week, culminating in a gruelling three-set defeat.
Taking to Instagram, Serena expressed her profound disappointment, stating, “I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles. Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside (at)venuswilliams once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could but unfortunately my knee just isn’t ready to compete.” Her social media post also included images of four syringes, which she clarified contained fluid drained from her knee immediately following her singles match. An accompanying video depicted her walking with extensive medical strapping along her right leg, receiving assistance from one of her daughters who held a cane.
Despite the current setback, the former world number one hinted at a swift return to competitive tennis, potentially aligning with the upcoming hardcourt season in the United States. “All I can say,” Serena remarked, “is stay tuned to a city near you.”
The iconic sisters were initially slated to compete against the duo of Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra in the first round. Tournament organisers had even delayed this specific match to maximise Serena’s recovery window after her earlier physical struggles. Her injury had occurred during a marathon opening-round singles match, where the seven-time singles champion was defeated by Australia’s rising talent, Maya Joint, in a fiercely contested battle.
Venus Williams had already participated in the mixed doubles tournament the previous day, partnering with Kevin Krawietz, before exiting that competition. Throughout their illustrious careers, the Williams sisters have collectively secured the women's doubles championship at the All England Club on six separate occasions.
