Germany National Team Taps Former Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp

Renowned German tactician, Jürgen Klopp, previously at the helm of Liverpool, has reportedly given his consent to assume the role of head coach for the German national football team. This development comes on the heels of Julian Nagelsmann's exit, following the squad's less-than-stellar performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which saw them knocked out in the Round of 32 by Paraguay.
The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Friday that discussions are now underway with Klopp, subsequent to their split with Nagelsmann. The federation indicated that Klopp has already expressed his readiness in principle to take up the prestigious position. A statement from the DFB read: “Regarding the appointment of a new coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jürgen Klopp. He has already signaled his general willingness to take on the position.”
Klopp had previously stepped down as Liverpool's manager in the summer of 2024, concluding a successful tenure of nearly nine years, stating his intention to take a sabbatical from active coaching. During his time at Anfield, the German coach guided the Reds to significant triumphs, including both the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League titles.
While Klopp currently holds a contract as Red Bull's global head of football, Sky Germany has reported the existence of a verbal understanding. This agreement reportedly grants him the flexibility to depart his current role to accept the Germany national team coaching responsibility.
