Napoli, the prominent Serie A club, officially announced on Friday, July 3, that Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed as their new manager, taking over from Antonio Conte. The 58-year-old Italian tactician has committed to a three-year deal, which will keep him at the helm until 2029.

Allegri brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed football giants Juventus across two stints (2014–2019 and 2021–2024) and AC Milan (2010–2014). His most recent tenure at Milan, from 2025–2026, concluded with his dismissal after the team's performance declined significantly towards the end of the season, leading them to a fifth-place finish and missing out on qualification for the upcoming Champions League tournament.

This managerial change at Napoli is part of a broader trend in Serie A, where a significant nine out of the twenty teams have brought in new coaches since the conclusion of the recent season. Other notable appointments include Rúben Amorim at AC Milan, Maurizio Sarri at Atalanta, and Fabio Grosso at Fiorentina.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte, who successfully led Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/2025 campaign and secured a second-place finish in the season just ended, is widely speculated to be the frontrunner for the vacant Italy national team coaching position. Conte has prior experience managing the Azzurri, having coached them from 2014 to 2016, during which he guided the team to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 before their elimination by Germany in a penalty shootout.
