The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the crucial process of collating and announcing the results for the Osun State governorship election, which took place on Saturday. This significant development by the electoral body occurred several hours after polling units concluded voting activities across all 30 local government areas within the state.
Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, is presiding over the entire exercise as the State Returning Officer.
Here are the initial results that have been declared from some local government areas:
**Boluwaduro Local Government Area:**
Professor Sola Omotola, the Returning Officer for Boluwaduro LG, announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 7,050 votes. The area recorded 14,662 accredited voters, with a total of 14,655 votes cast. Out of these, 14,478 were confirmed as valid votes.
**Ede South Local Government Area:**
In Ede South LG, Returning Officer Raji Oluwakemi reported that the APC garnered 6,219 votes. The total number of accredited voters stood at 34,011, with 33,950 votes cast. A total of 33,210 votes were declared valid.
**Ife North Local Government Area:**
Professor Tajudeen Opoola, the Returning Officer for Ife North, declared 9,613 votes for the APC. The local government had 24,772 accredited voters, with 24,704 total votes cast and 24,216 valid votes.
**Ilesa West Local Government Area:**
Professor Babatunde Omotoso, the Returning Officer for Ilesa West, announced that the APC received 12,756 votes. The LGA registered 31,333 accredited voters, 31,234 total votes cast, and 30,244 valid votes.
**Ifedayo Local Government Area:**
For Ifedayo LG, Professor Babatope, the Returning Officer, oversaw the announcement. The area recorded 14,703 accredited voters and 14,703 total votes cast, with 1,449 valid votes.
**Ilesa East Local Government Area:**
Professor Chika Asogba, the Returning Officer for Ilesa East, declared 16,208 votes for the APC. The LGA had 30,371 accredited voters, 30,209 total votes cast, and 29,460 valid votes.
**Ife Central Local Government Area:**
In Ife Central, Professor Adekoya Iromini, the Returning Officer, announced 15,913 votes for the APC. Accredited voters totaled 39,990, with 39,330 votes cast and 38,380 valid votes.
**Boripe Local Government Area:**
Professor Ahmed Sakiru, the Returning Officer for Boripe, reported 19,963 votes for the APC. The area saw 33,943 accredited voters, 33,713 total votes cast, and 33,116 valid votes.
**Irepodun Local Government Area:**
Babafunso Awe, the Returning Officer for Irepodun, declared 15,713 votes for the APC. This LGA recorded 31,291 accredited voters, 31,282 total votes cast, and 30,717 valid votes.
Meanwhile, other developments from the election day included reports of disagreements that led to the stalling of a House of Representatives panel report concerning a fake agency. Early reports also suggested that Adeleke was taking an initial lead, with some influential political figures losing their respective polling units. Additionally, senior citizens in Osun shared their reasons for enduring potential risks to participate in the voting process.
