The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Akwa Ibom State chapter, has expressed its deep appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his administration's recent payment of outstanding arrears to local government workers across the state. According to a statement released by the union's State President, Comrade Anestina Iweh, this move demonstrates the governor's commitment to improving the welfare of workers in the state. The union noted that the successful payment of the arrears has brought immense relief to thousands of local government employees, restoring their confidence in the government and boosting their morale. 'The successful payment of the outstanding arrears owed to local government workers is a significant demonstration of Governor Umo Eno's commitment to the welfare of workers in Akwa Ibom State,' the statement read. The union also acknowledged the contributions of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, and Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Uwemedimo Udo, as well as the 31 local government chairmen, for their roles in ensuring the payment of the inherited arrears. The collaborative efforts of the state government and local government authorities were instrumental in clearing the outstanding obligations left by previous administrations. 'NULGE sincerely appreciates the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the ALGON Chairman, and all the 31 local government chairmen for their collective efforts in ensuring the settlement of these outstanding obligations,' the statement said. The payment has not only restored confidence among workers but has also boosted their morale across the local government service. 'This intervention has brought immense relief to local government employees across the state, restored confidence in government, and renewed the morale of workers who patiently awaited the settlement of the arrears,' the statement added. The union believes that the payment reflects the government's understanding of the challenges faced by workers and its determination to improve their welfare and productivity. Furthermore, the successful settlement of the arrears has strengthened workers' confidence in the leadership of Governor Eno and other stakeholders who worked towards making the exercise a reality. 'NULGE remains committed to supporting the implementation of the ARISE Agenda and assures the government of the continued loyalty, dedication, and commitment of local government workers to efficient service delivery at the grassroots,' the statement added. The union views the clearance of the outstanding obligations as another milestone in efforts to strengthen the local government system and enhance service delivery across Akwa Ibom State.
