Trump Floats 'NICE' Rebrand for ICE to 'Discombobulate' Media

Former United States President, Donald Trump, recently proposed a controversial rebranding of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to “NICE,” by simply adding the letter “N” to stand for “National.” He asserted that this modification would effectively confuse his detractors within the media and the Democratic Party.
In a poll shared on his official X handle on Saturday, Trump wrote, “POLL: ICE has been abused by the Fake News Media at levels never seen before. They are Great Patriots who work hard and do a fantastic job in a very hostile environment. Much of this hostility is caused by the Dumocrats and the Fake News. The concept I have had for quite some time — A strong feeling that the name of these Patriots, ‘ICE,’ should be changed to ‘NICE,’ in that it will totally discombobulate crooked, dishonest, and unpatriotic reporters and journalists.”
Elaborating on his rationale for the suggested name change, Trump explained that journalists and critics would then be compelled to use positively-connoted language when reporting on immigration enforcement activities. He further stated, “For them to say, ‘We went to a NICE Facility today,’ as opposed to ‘ICE’ or ‘NICE Agents have deported a violent drug dealer,’ they won’t be able to handle it, they will go totally crazy! All it means is adding an ‘N’ (‘National’) to ‘ICE (‘Immigration and Customs Enforcement’), a much more prestigious name.”
The former president did acknowledge that the concept had encountered some reservations from within the agency's leadership. Trump mentioned that despite “everyone loves it,” he had been informed by the “legendary” Tom Homan, who previously served as acting director of ICE and is a strong proponent of border enforcement, that “the Agents do not love it as much as the other population.”
Concluding his post, Trump posed the question directly to his followers: “Who thinks that we should add an ‘N’ to change the name of ‘ICE’ to ‘NICE?’ Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT.” This proposal emerges amidst ongoing discussions surrounding immigration enforcement policies across the United States. ICE has garnered significant backing from conservatives for its deportation operations, while also facing criticism from opponents who allege its tactics are overly aggressive. Trump has consistently defended the agency, positioning it as a cornerstone of his administration's immigration agenda.
The X post quickly generated a flurry of responses, highlighting the deeply divided views on Trump and US immigration policy. Supporters largely welcomed the suggestion with amusement and enthusiasm, with #ValentinaForUSA commenting, “ICE needs to deport ALL the Muslims, Somalis & Haitians. They do nothing productive for America,” and #GuntherEagleman stating, “I support our NICE agents!” Conversely, critics ridiculed the idea or leveraged it to underscore other perceived issues. #RpsAgainstTrump remarked, “Once again, laser-focused on what truly matters. Resign!” while #unifilvet bluntly questioned, “What are you talking about!?”
As of press time, the proposal has not been formally introduced as a policy, and no immediate reactions were available from ICE officials or the Department of Homeland Security.
