The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has significantly advanced its upload of results from the Ekiti State governorship election onto its Result Viewing Portal (IReV). As of 6:41 pm on Saturday, a total of 2,048 results out of 2,445 polling units were successfully published, accounting for 83.7 percent of the overall results. This marks a substantial increase from just 35.5 percent recorded barely half an hour earlier, at 6:12 pm.

The off-cycle governorship contest features fourteen candidates vying for the state's top office. Among them is the incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is seeking re-election for a second term before his current mandate concludes in October.

Key contenders challenging Governor Oyebanji include Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwadare Bejide representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oyebanji Olajuyin from the Labour Party (LP), and Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Other individuals contesting the election are Samuel Akande (AAC), Ayodeji Ojo (ADP), Opeyemi Felegan (Accord), Joseph Anifowose (APM), Bidemi Awogbemi (APP), Olaniyi Ayodele (PRP), and Victor Adetunji (ZLP).

Meanwhile, reports from other by-elections across the country indicated generally peaceful proceedings. The by-election in Kebbi concluded without incident, with collation already underway. In Rivers State, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate lauded the impressive voter turnout, while INEC confirmed that the Kano by-election was peaceful and hitch-free.

Transmission of results to the IReV portal is still ongoing, and collation efforts continue across Ekiti State as the electoral body works towards finalizing the outcome.
