APC Unites Behind Chinda as Consensus Candidate for Rivers Governorship

A former governorship aspirant in Rivers State, Alabo George-Kelly, has expressed his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate, Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda. This move is seen as a strategic decision to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 election. George-Kelly, who participated in the APC governorship primary, voluntarily stepped aside to allow Chinda to emerge as the consensus flagbearer. The Rainbow Coalition, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, played a significant role in this consensus arrangement. George-Kelly described the coalition's decision as 'leadership in action,' demonstrating unity and strategic political calculation within the APC in Rivers State. He commended the members of the Rainbow Coalition for their wisdom and political maturity in selecting Chinda as the party's standard-bearer. According to George-Kelly, Chinda's experience in the House of Representatives and his understanding of legislative and Niger Delta issues make him a capable candidate for the governorship race. The APC chieftain reaffirmed his loyalty to Wike, crediting him with providing direction and purpose for the Rainbow Coalition and the APC in Rivers State. George-Kelly pledged to work for Chinda's electoral victory and urged party members to unite ahead of the general election. In a statement, George-Kelly said, 'I wish to formally and wholeheartedly congratulate Hon. O.K. Chinda on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Rivers State.' He expressed his commitment to the success of President Bola Tinubu's administration and encouraged party members to rally behind Chinda for the governorship election.
