Tragedy Strikes Spain's World Cup Victory Celebration as Young Boy Loses Life

In the aftermath of Spain's thrilling World Cup win, a somber mood has settled over the city of Ciudad Rodrigo in Salamanca province, northwestern Spain. The cause of this sorrow is the untimely death of a 13-year-old boy who was caught up in the festivities. As people gathered inside the Árbol Gordo fountain to celebrate Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina, disaster struck when a part of the fountain collapsed at around 00:30 local time. The teenager, along with other youngsters, was inside the fountain when the upper section gave way, falling on top of the revellers. Emergency services quickly responded to the incident, removing debris to free those trapped, and rushing the young boy to a nearby health centre. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Two other young people were also injured in the incident, with one child suffering a possible broken bone in his leg. The City Council of Ciudad Rodrigo has expressed its deep sorrow and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, stating, 'The entire city of Ciudad Rodrigo mourns this loss and stands with the child's family and friends in their grief.' The council also extended its wishes for a speedy recovery to those affected by the incident. As a mark of respect, the city's flags will fly at half-mast from July 20 to July 22. This tragic event has cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous celebration of Spain's second-ever World Cup win, following their previous victory in 2010.
