Lagos Welcomes Fresh Batch of Citizens Evacuated from South Africa

On Tuesday, June 30, Lagos State played host to another contingent of Nigerian citizens returning from South Africa. An Air Peace aircraft, transporting approximately 271 Nigerians, completed its journey from Johannesburg, where it had departed around 5 a.m. local time, touching down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport just before 11 a.m. Upon their arrival, the returnees were met by representatives from key government agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM). This most recent repatriation exercise forms a component of the Federal Government’s sustained initiative to facilitate the voluntary return of its citizens, prompted by the escalating anti-immigration sentiments prevalent in South Africa.
