Trump Threatens Iran's Demise Amid Escalating Ceasefire Violations

United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning regarding Iran's future, suggesting the nation's existence could be jeopardized amidst renewed military engagements between the Islamic state and the U.S. This comes as a precarious ceasefire faces increasing pressure. Writing on Truth Social, Trump declared, "United States aircraft just struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations, and coastal radar sites, for violating the Cease Fire Agreement, AGAIN!" He further added, "It is very possible that they will never learn! There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!"

This latest existential threat against Iran mirrors previous warnings made by Trump earlier in the year, particularly during efforts to bring Iran to diplomatic discussions. In April, the former president had issued an equally dire warning, stating that Iran's "whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." When later questioned about this statement, he reportedly indicated he was "fine with it."

The initial social media post had previously drawn significant backlash from Democratic lawmakers, with some condemning it as "pure evil." Others went further, accusing the president of potentially threatening war crimes and genocide, and called for his removal from office. It's important to note that Trump's most recent statement preceded retaliatory strikes launched by Iran against Kuwait and Bahrain on Sunday, which Tehran claims were in response to U.S. ceasefire violations. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported from these incidents.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued its own warning, stating that any further U.S. attacks would lead to a "complete halt of all diplomatic processes." Earlier on Thursday, an attack attributed to Iran targeted a Singapore-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Oman. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center, linked to the British Royal Navy, confirmed that the vessel sustained damage to its starboard side and bridge, though fortunately, no crew members were injured.

On Saturday, the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) announced it had conducted additional strikes against Iranian targets. This action followed an earlier assault on a Panama-flagged tanker operating near the critical Strait of Hormuz. Centcom reported that the tanker, identified as M/T Kiku, was hit by a one-way drone around 4:30 a.m. while carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.

Iran, on Friday, reaffirmed its control over the Strait of Hormuz, assuring that maritime vessels could navigate safely if they coordinated with Iranian authorities. A 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explicitly states that no charges or tolls would be levied for safe passage through this vital waterway. Historically, officials from the Trump administration have consistently argued that any attempt by Iran to impose a toll would constitute a breach of international law.

Both the U.S. and Iran had digitally signed this 14-point MOU, aiming to extend a pause in hostilities for 60 days. The objective was to facilitate negotiations towards resolving the conflict, addressing Iran's nuclear program, and ensuring unimpeded passage through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cautioned, as reported by The Associated Press, that any "interference in this matter… will only lead to further complications, delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and increase the level of tension, just as over the past two nights we witnessed incidents in the Strait of Hormuz that led to an increase in tension and confrontation."
