Three Die in Los Angeles After NBC4 Helicopter Plunge Near Deadly Bus Scene

Los Angeles was gripped by a devastating series of events on Tuesday evening, September 15, as a news helicopter belonging to NBC4 tragically crashed, claiming three lives. This incident occurred near the site of an earlier fatal Metro bus accident, compounding the tragedy for emergency responders already at work.

During live broadcast coverage of the unfolding situation, veteran anchor Colleen Williams struggled to maintain composure, tearfully announcing, "we have lost contact with our people." The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed that among the deceased, one individual was likely a pedestrian on the ground, while the other two were occupants of the aircraft. A sole survivor from the helicopter was transported to a local hospital, reportedly in grave condition.

The ill-fated helicopter went down between two commercial structures around 7 p.m. on the 9100 block of Mason Avenue. The impact ignited several parked cars nearby. Firefighters arriving at the scene discovered both the helicopter and vehicles engulfed in flames, close to where crews were actively assisting victims from the preceding bus collision. The aerial disaster happened precisely as emergency personnel were managing the aftermath of the initial deadly crash involving a Metro bus and another vehicle.

Earlier that day, the bus accident, reported shortly after 5 p.m. near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue by the Los Angeles Police Department, had already resulted in two fatalities and left six others injured, who were subsequently hospitalized with conditions yet unknown. The total death toll from both incidents now stands at five – three from the helicopter crash and two from the bus collision.

Mayor Karen Bass addressed the press near the scene on Tuesday night, expressing profound sorrow. "This is a heartbreaking night for our city. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and the loved ones we lost today," she stated.
