An urgent plea has gone out from the family of Mrs. Opeoluwa Dorcas, a 55-year-old woman, to compassionate Nigerians, seeking N45.1 million to fund a critical kidney transplant that could save her life.

Medical documentation, sighted by PUNCH Online this Monday, confirms Mrs. Dorcas's diagnosis of end-stage renal disease, a severe condition stemming from chronic glomerulonephritis. Despite consistent dialysis treatments, her health has not improved, making an immediate kidney transplant imperative.

Her family revealed that she has already completed over 50 dialysis sessions, each incurring a N45,000 charge. These costs are compounded by expenditures on vital medications, blood transfusions, kidney function assessments, echocardiograms, and various other necessary medical interventions.

Joshua, her son, informed PUNCH Metro on Monday that despite generous contributions from friends and their church community, the family's financial resources have been completely depleted by the ongoing medical expenses.

Joshua stated, “We received support from friends and our church, but the cost of dialysis and medications has consumed almost everything we have raised. She has been doing her dialysis (twice a week), and she has done more than 50 sessions. A session costs N45,000. She does EuCR (Kidney function test), blood transfusion, echocardiogram tests and more.”

A medical report, signed by Dr. Abdulahi O.J. from PurpleMed Specialist Medical and Kidney Centre in Oyo State and dated August 12, 2025, precisely calculated the total cost for the transplant at N45,113,609.09.

This substantial sum is itemized as N27.34 million for the core kidney transplant procedure, an additional N16.08 million earmarked for a year's supply of crucial post-transplant immunosuppressant drugs, and N1.7 million for laboratory investigations spanning six months after the surgery.

The family's appeal extends to various entities, including government agencies, charitable organizations, faith-based groups, and the general public, urging them to contribute towards Mrs. Dorcas's treatment.

In their heartfelt appeal, the family stated, “We appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians, organisations, and corporate bodies to come to her aid. She is fighting for her life, and the cost of dialysis, medications, and ongoing treatment has become overwhelming for the family. Every donation and every share of her story brings hope and could help give her a second chance at life. No amount is too small.”

For those willing to assist, contributions can be sent to: Account Name: Opeoluwa Dorcas, Bank: First Bank, Account Number: 3073355653.
