The Enugu State Police Command has successfully secured the conviction of a male individual involved in phone snatching, leading to a three-year prison sentence. Ejike Nnam, 34, residing in an uncompleted structure at Nkpokiti, Enugu, received a three-year term for conspiracy and a five-year term for robbery. Both sentences are to be served concurrently.

Police reports indicate that on the evening of October 8, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m., Nnam, along with an accomplice who is currently at large, allegedly snatched an iPhone XR from a female victim on Bisalla Road, Enugu. The stolen device is valued at an estimated N240,000. Following the incident, Nnam was swiftly apprehended and brought before the Enugu North Magistrate Court the very next day. He entered a guilty plea, resulting in his immediate conviction and subsequent sentencing.

In a separate development, law enforcement officers arrested Richard Chukwuma, 29, on October 7, 2026, around 6:50 p.m. He was taken into custody at a prominent supermarket in Enugu on suspicion of stealing a bottle of Jameson Green Whisky, valued at N30,150. During questioning, Chukwuma reportedly confessed to having previously stolen fifteen bottles of the same whisky from the establishment. He was arraigned on October 9, 2026, and has since been remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, confirmed Nnam’s conviction and expressed his appreciation to the Chief Magistrate for the swift administration of justice in the phone-snatching case. CP Giwa underscored the importance of rapidly concluding police cases in courts statewide, emphasizing that timely judicial processes enhance public trust in the justice system and contribute effectively to crime prevention. He also lauded the New Haven Police Division and the dedicated prosecution team for their efforts. The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to conducting thorough investigations and diligently prosecuting criminal matters in strict adherence to legal provisions. He further advised residents to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police.
