Connecticut Father Arrested After Infant's Death in Sweltering Car

A man in Connecticut, US, is currently facing charges after allegedly leaving his one-year-old son unattended inside a scorching vehicle while he was at work on his family's strawberry farm. The tragic incident led to the child being pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital.

According to details released by the East Windsor Police Department, Kevin Pell contacted authorities last month, reporting that he had left his young son in the vehicle because the child was asleep. Pell reportedly informed the police that he proceeded to work on his family’s strawberry farm, only to return later and discover his son "blue and not breathing."

A search warrant revealed inconsistencies in Pell's statements. Initially, he allegedly told a dispatcher that the air conditioning was not running while his son was in the car. However, when officers arrived at the scene, he reportedly provided a different account, claiming the air conditioning had been on.

The warrant further described the vehicle as "not habitable for the child," noting that it was parked directly under the sun with all windows and the sunroof completely closed. First responders arrived to find Pell performing CPR on his son. Emergency personnel quickly took over resuscitation efforts before the child was rushed to Connecticut Children’s Medical Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced deceased.

Pell has been formally charged with risk of injury to a child. Authorities indicated that additional charges might be filed as the investigation continues. He made an appearance in court on Thursday, September 10, but did not enter a plea. His next court date is scheduled for the following month. The charge against Pell is currently an allegation, and the full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death is still ongoing.
