UK-Based Nigerian Gets 17 Years for Wrexham R*pe, Victim Narrates Ordeal

An unnamed 20-year-old woman has detailed her harrowing experience of being r*ped by a Nigerian national, Gift Oladele, 24, in Wrexham, Wales. Oladele, who had offered to escort her home following a night out, forcibly dragged her into a secluded wooded area. This account comes as Oladele received a 17-year prison sentence in April after convictions for r*pe and s*xual assault related to the September 7, 2025 incident.

The victim explained that Oladele initially engaged her as she walked home, claiming to be going the same way before proposing to walk with her. Upon reaching a desolate spot, he seized her by the mouth and compelled her into the bush. She recounted her struggle, stating, “He was a lot bigger than I was – I tried pushing him away, but he overpowered me.” She added, “He was covering my mouth. I was trying to get his arm off me, but he wasn’t budging. That’s when he r*ped me violently.”

During the traumatic assault, the woman expressed profound fear for her life, especially after Oladele chillingly inquired if it was her inaugural experience with r*pe. She described her mental state, saying, “My brain just switched into survival mode – it was weird. It was either I do what he says, and I get home to my mum, or he is going to kill me.”

Before she could report the incident, Oladele struck her head six times, leaving visible bruises on her body. The victim vividly recalled his disturbing remarks post-assault: “When he finished, he turned around and said, ‘I think you’ve had enough now. At least you have been r*ped by someone good-looking’.”

Oladele reportedly issued threats, warning he would locate her if she reported the r*pe and also threatened to disseminate her photographs online. Despite these threats, the woman informed her parents without delay upon reaching home around 3:30 AM, leading her father to contact law enforcement. She shared her immediate reaction, stating, “I felt numb. I was hysterical. My brain couldn’t figure out what had just happened.”

Oladele's arrest occurred the subsequent day at his cousin’s residence in Wrexham. Police investigations uncovered his attempt to conceal a mobile phone, which, upon examination, contained search histories indicative of inquiries into s*xual assaults.

As previously reported by PUNCH in April, Oladele received a 25-year sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court. This included 17 years of imprisonment and an additional eight-year extended licence period. His conviction at Mold Crown Court in March followed his denial of both r*pe and s*xual assault charges, where he falsely asserted the victim's consent. Furthermore, the court imposed an indefinite S*xual Harm Prevention Order and a lifelong restraining order to protect the victim.

It was revealed that at the time of this assault, Oladele was out on bail for a separate r*pe accusation from November 2024 in Manchester. He had also served a previous prison term in 2022 for a s*xually motivated crime. Oladele, an Italian-born Nigerian citizen, had successfully contested his deportation to Nigeria earlier, citing human rights concerns.

After his initial imprisonment, UK authorities attempted to deport him, but Oladele launched an appeal, contending that his removal would infringe upon his right to private and family life, as protected by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. An immigration tribunal sided with him, deeming deportation disproportionate. The Home Office then lodged two appeals, both of which were unsuccessful.

The victim's mother expressed her dismay regarding the tribunal's decision, questioning, “Where are my daughter’s rights? That’s what I want to know. She has the right to walk home after a night out without being r*ped.”

Wrexham Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst labelled Oladele a “dangerous predator” and commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward. The Chief Inspector noted, “He demonstrated no remorse for his crimes after forcing her to relive the traumatic experience through a trial.”

The woman revealed that the assault continues to severely impact her mental and physical health, to the extent that she struggles with eating. She shared her profound distress, stating, “There were numerous times a day when I would be hysterically crying because I didn’t want to be here anymore.”
