Lawyer Ejimakor Chides Benue Youths for Blocking Peter Obi, Alleges Ethnic Bias

Human rights advocate, Aloy Ejimakor, has strongly condemned young individuals who recently obstructed a major thoroughfare in Benue State, thereby preventing Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, from continuing his scheduled visit. The incident, which led to a confrontation, took place on Tuesday, September 8. Suspected hoodlums had established a blockade on an access road near Gyado Villa along Gboko Road in Makurdi, following Mr. Obi's arrival in the state, effectively halting his entourage from proceeding to planned engagements.

Addressing the disruption through a statement shared on his official X account, Ejimakor raised critical questions, challenging those who erected the blockade. He queried why these individuals had not similarly confronted armed groups responsible for the extensive violence and loss of life witnessed across Benue State. Instead, he argued, they specifically targeted Obi. The lawyer suggested that the demonstrators' actions were rooted in Obi's Igbo ethnic background and drew comparisons to historical political missteps.

Ejimakor wrote: “These Benue protesters and thugs that barricaded and stopped Peter Obi from entering Benue, let me ask you: When will you barricade the terr*rists that have been killing thousands in your state? Or is it only when it comes to the Igbo? This is how you messed yourselves up in the Civil War.”
