The Adamawa State Police Command has brought charges against an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba, following an alleged assault on an Area Court judge in the Fufore Local Government Area of the state. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, by the command's spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, Mr. Garba is accused of using a cutlass to inflict injuries on the hand of the presiding judge, Honourable Dauda Hamman.
The incident reportedly unfolded on August 31, 2026, during a court session at the Mayo-Ine Area Court, where Judge Hamman was overseeing a case involving Mr. Garba and another individual, Ismail Yusuf. The police statement described a "mild drama" when the suspect, from Korawa village, allegedly attacked the judge, causing severe harm to his hand.
Following the violent altercation, police operatives promptly apprehended Dahiru Garba. The case was subsequently transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fufore to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola on September 4, 2026, for thorough investigation and prosecution.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Mr. Garba was arraigned on Monday, September 8, 2026, before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola. Presiding over the court was Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng. The octogenarian faces a single charge of causing grievous hurt, an offense contravening Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.
When the charge was read and explained to him, the defendant entered a guilty plea, attributing his actions to "the devil" and expressing profound regret. The court has since ordered that Dahiru Garba be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility, awaiting further proceedings in the case.
