Ogun State Authorities Apprehend Woman for Drainage Waste Disposal in Sagamu

Full Story
The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), working in conjunction with Environmental Health Officers (EHO) from Sagamu Local Government, has successfully apprehended a woman. She was identified from a widely circulated video showing her depositing refuse into a drainage channel within Sagamu. The video footage depicted the woman carrying a yellow sack full of waste, which she subsequently emptied into the gutter while it was raining.
OGWAMA confirmed the arrest via a post on its official X account on Tuesday, stating that the woman was taken into custody following the widespread circulation of the incriminating video. The agency's statement read: “The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of Sagamu Local Government, has apprehended the lady captured in a viral video dumping waste into a drainage channel in Sagamu last Friday.”
In light of this incident, OGWAMA reiterated its appeal to residents to refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal practices. The authority encouraged citizens to instead utilise the services of waste collection operators who are officially accredited by the agency. OGWAMA further emphasised the collective responsibility required for maintaining a clean environment, adding, “A cleaner Ogun State is a shared responsibility.”
