Deadly Ambush Claims Three Kaduna Vigilante Members

Full Story
Tragedy struck on the Zuntu-Zaria Road within Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as three operatives of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (Kadvis) were brutally murdered by armed assailants. The fatal incident unfolded around 12:20 AM on Monday, September 7, while the officials were actively engaged in their official duties, conducting vital stop-and-search operations along the major highway.
Reports indicate that the three Kadvis personnel had established a checkpoint when a red Gulf vehicle, moving at a high velocity, approached their position and failed to comply with their directive to stop. The vigilance officials subsequently initiated a pursuit, chasing the speeding vehicle in their patrol car. During this chase, Mamiyo, who served as the Deputy Commander of Kadvis for Kubau LGA and was driving the patrol vehicle, sustained a gunshot wound, with the bullet reportedly grazing his ear.
Ibrahim Zuntu, a local resident, shared his account, suggesting that the occupants of the red Gulf vehicle were suspected armed robbers. He further detailed that there was a fierce exchange of gunfire between the suspected criminals and the Kadvis officials as the pursuit intensified. “The people inside the red Gulf, we suspected, were armed robbers. The incident happened not far away from our residence, and there was an exchange of gunshots with the Kadvis during the chase,” Zuntu stated.
According to Zuntu, after the driver, Mamiyo, was shot, the gunmen proceeded to open fire on another Kadvis official who was also inside the patrol vehicle. Following these brutal acts, the assailants reportedly returned to the initial checkpoint where they confronted and shot the third official who had remained behind. The violent killings have plunged the local community into a state of profound shock and apprehension.
