Long Island Apartment: Son Accused of Fatally Stabbing Father

Authorities report a tragic incident on Long Island where a 69-year-old man, Edward Brown, was brutally stabbed to death by his 33-year-old son, Sage Arias-Brown. Prosecutors in Suffolk County allege that Arias-Brown forcibly entered his father's Mastic apartment around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, proceeding to inflict multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and chest before making an escape.

During the court proceedings, Assistant District Attorney Melissa Grier informed the bench that a witness overheard Arias-Brown forcing his way into the residence and subsequently heard Mr. Brown's cries for assistance. The witness then observed Arias-Brown leaving the premises. The accused, described as scowling and dressed in a worn track suit, reportedly appeared restless throughout his arraignment.

Despite sustaining severe injuries from the multiple stabbings, Brown remarkably managed to reach a telephone and dial 911 to report the violent assault, as detailed by Grier. He collapsed shortly after, while awaiting the arrival of emergency services. Prosecutors confirmed that Edward Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

The precise sequence of events within the apartment and whether any prior confrontation triggered the deadly violence are still not fully understood. Police apprehended Arias-Brown only a few blocks from his father's residence a short while after the homicide.

He entered a plea of not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and was ordered to be held without bail following his appearance on Tuesday, September 8. His next court date is scheduled for Friday, September 11. Katherine Fernandez, Arias-Brown's attorney, disclosed that her client suffers from a history of mental illness and is also facing an outstanding robbery charge.
