Keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez, Pregnant Spouse, Young Daughter, Household Staffer Found Slain in Mexico

A tragic incident has rocked Mexico following the discovery of the bodies of Jonathan Meléndez, a renowned keyboardist for the indie rock and synthpop band Camilo Séptimo, his pregnant wife, their young daughter, and their live-in nanny. The gruesome scene was uncovered late Tuesday within their upscale home in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico.

Meléndez, aged 38, a founding member of Camilo Séptimo, was found alongside his 35-year-old wife, Ana Paula, who was four months pregnant. Also among the deceased were their three-year-old daughter, the family’s 21-year-old nanny, Aleida Romero Victorio, and the family dog.

Investigations by law enforcement officials revealed that three of the human victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head, while the fourth suffered a gunshot wound to the back. Further distressing details emerged, indicating that two of the victims had their hands bound. The family’s pet dog was also found tied at its legs. Miraculously, a six-year-old boy present at the residence was discovered unharmed amidst the tragedy.

In a swift and coordinated response, a joint operation involving the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office, the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and Mexico City authorities led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected of involvement in the murders. Omar García Harfuch, the Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, disclosed that one of the arrested suspects, identified as Diego Sebastián "N," was reportedly a business associate of Jonathan Meléndez. It is alleged that Diego Sebastián "N" leveraged his existing relationship with the musician to gain access to the property. The second individual taken into custody and currently under investigation is identified as Gerardo "N."

Following the devastating news, members of Camilo Séptimo issued a heartfelt statement on social media, expressing profound sorrow over the demise of Meléndez. They paid tribute to his memory, his unique spirit, and his significant artistic contributions to the band. Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that formal judicial proceedings against the two suspects are actively underway as the investigation continues.
