Carnarvon Court Jails Man 20 Years for R@ping His Own Mother

Full Story
A 22-year-old man in South Africa has received a two-decade prison sentence for the r@pe of his biological mother. The verdict was handed down by the Carnarvon Regional Court in the Northern Cape, following the man's guilty plea to the charge. The incident, which saw the 42-year-old mother assaulted while she slept, took place on November 23, 2025.
Reports indicate that on the night of the crime, the mother and her life partner had consumed alcohol and subsequently fallen asleep at their home. The accused, who had also been drinking at a friend’s residence, returned to find them unconscious. According to Mojalefa Senokoatsane, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the man undressed his mother and proceeded to s£xually penetrate her without her consent. The woman awoke during the assault to discover her son on top of her. Upon being confronted, he immediately fled the house.
The mother later confided in her partner, and the matter was promptly reported to the police. Initially, the accused denied all allegations in a written statement after his arrest. However, DNA evidence subsequently emerged, definitively linking him to the heinous crime. “Faced with the compelling evidence presented by the State, including the complainant's testimony and the DNA results, the accused ultimately pleaded guilty to the charge of r@pe,” Senokoatsane confirmed.
During the court proceedings, a victim impact statement was presented, where the mother expressed profound hurt and betrayal. She recounted raising the accused as a single parent and described the deep emotional toll of the assault. The mother revealed that she is currently undergoing counselling and continues to suffer from trauma, including persistent sleep difficulties. While the court acknowledged the accused's guilty plea as a mitigating factor, it concluded that the grave nature of the offence necessitated a substantial custodial sentence. Consequently, he was sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment, and his details were ordered to be entered into the National Register for S£x Offenders.
